Mastrobuono and Class Present “Zanni Identity Crisis”

Commedia dell’arte, the Popular Form of Italian Comedy, Takes Over the Stahr

Theater of the Seventh Sister presents “Zanni Identity Crisis.”  The show is the creation of Mastrobuono and the students of her commedia dell’arte class.  The show runs January 29-31, 2010 at the Stahr Performing Arts Center on North Queen St.  Individual tickets are $15.

Seven actors exercise their inner goofballs in the Italian art form of commedia dell’arte. Local commedia expert Terri Mastrobuono has led a class in the art of Italian Renaissance comedy: part improvisation, part interactive comedy, part sit-com, this art form has influenced western theater since the 1400′s, including providing Shakespeare with his character and story lines. Terri and her students have created an original comedic work entitled “Zanni Identity Crisis.” Pantelone’s comic servants, the Zanni, are called upon to intervene to prevent Pantalone’s son from marrying a dowerless girl. In typical buffoon style, the Zanni mix up their mission and become a part of the problem. Will it all be solved? Who knows? Who cares? No matter what, it will be fun!
