The Stahr Performing Arts Center operates in the Stahr Armory Building at 438 N Queen Street, Lancaster PA, by kind permission of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
The building was constructed some 90 years ago, long before disabled accessibility was a requirement. Because it is a government owned building, over the years it has sought and received fully legal exemptions and is NOT COMPLIANT with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). As such, the best access is through the front door, up 10 steps with handrails. The angle of the steps prevents our putting any form of ramp up, and since we do not own the building, we can not modify the structure to accommodate a ramp. Our staff is at all times willing to help visitors and patrons that require assistance climbing the stairs. In addition, the restroom facilities are small by today’s public standards and do not allow for wheelchair access.
It is our goal that Theater of the Seventh Sister will acquire the Stahr Armory building in the future and make the required modifications to assure full access. Until that time, we remain ever grateful to the National Guard for the use of the Stahr Armory building.
